OPPD AC and heat pump rebates in 2026

If OPPD is your electric company, you can get a rebate of $265 to $525 for installing a new central air conditioner or heat pump rated 15.2 SEER2 or higher in 2026. Every qualifying heat pump gets the top $525 amount. You must apply within four months of installation and in the same calendar year, so a November or December install needs its paperwork in by year end. Status as of October 27, 2026: OPPD lists the rebates as open.

2026 rebate amounts

Efficiency (from the AHRI certificate)OPPD rebate
16 SEER (15.2 SEER2)$265
17 SEER (16.2 SEER2)$375
18 and 19 SEER (18.1 to 18.2 SEER2)$450
20+ SEER, and all qualifying heat pumps (including geothermal)$525

Systems smaller than 2 tons get half the standard rebate, unless the system heats or cools the whole house.

Who qualifies

  • Your home is served by OPPD on a residential rate, and your account is in good standing.
  • It's a residential, individually metered home.
  • You install a new air conditioner or electric heat pump rated 15.2 SEER2 (16 SEER) or higher.
  • The system conditions the main living space. Systems that only serve a sunroom, garage, or outbuilding don't qualify.
  • OPPD may inspect the equipment and verify model numbers and matching coils.

How to apply

  1. Get quotes for a qualifying system. Ask each contractor for the SEER2 rating and the AHRI certificate for the exact indoor and outdoor combination.
  2. Install the system and pay for it (or finance it).
  3. Send OPPD the completed application with an electronic copy of the AHRI certificate and the paid invoice. OPPD's page says many contractors submit the paperwork for you, so ask.
  4. The invoice must list the equipment and model numbers and describe the work. The "bill to" name and address on the invoice are what OPPD uses for the rebate check, so make sure they're right.
  5. OPPD says rebates can take up to six weeks, and the check comes from OPPD.

Deadline: within four months of the installation date and within the same calendar year. Rebates aren't retroactive and are paid only while funding lasts. OPPD can end the program without notice, and in 2025 it sold out on June 4.

Heat pumps: a lower winter electric rate too

If you install a qualifying electric heat pump (14 SEER or higher), you may also qualify for OPPD Residential Conservation Rate 115, which has a lower final rate block in the winter billing period (October through May). To qualify, the heat pump must supply at least half of your home's heating and have an outdoor sensor or thermostat setting of 20°F or lower. If OPPD ends Rate 115, customers already on it keep it for five more years.

Gas furnaces and other utilities

  • M.U.D. (gas): M.U.D. doesn't currently list a furnace rebate for single-family homes. Its furnace rebate is for multi-family developers.
  • Council Bluffs (MidAmerican Energy): MidAmerican offers 2026 Instant Discounts through participating contractors, taken off the price at purchase: $300 to $563 for air-source heat pumps, $563 to $713 for cold-climate heat pumps, $263 to $413 for central air conditioners, and $2.40 per 1,000 Btu/h for natural gas furnaces. Instant Discounts can't be combined with other MidAmerican rebates. Ask your contractor whether they participate.
  • Federal tax credit: the federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) doesn't apply to equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025, so it doesn't cover a 2026 install.

Before you buy

  • Get the AHRI certificate number before you sign, so you know which rebate tier you'll be in.
  • Ask how the contractor sized the system for your house.
  • Compare at least two written quotes. See repair or replace your HVAC if your current system still runs.
